Jordan Berry [00:00:01]:
Welcome to Laundromat News Today. I am your host, anchor anchor Jordan Berry here bringing you the news all things Laundromat related from around the world. Let’s kick it off by checking Alliance Laundry’s ticker price. As of recording this, the Alliance Laundry IPO has officially launched. And I just thought it’d be fun in these news episodes to just track how the price of alliance was Laundry is doing on the stock market there. So since it’s IPO, it’s up just under 6%, up to $26.30 a share. So you know it’s holding its value. So keep an eye on that to see if that changes anything in our industry.

Jordan Berry [00:00:49]:
All right, let’s jump out to another story we’re going to head down under to Australia about. We got a story about a dad who in, in down there in Australia, he quit his high paying job and is decided to launch his Laundromat empire. Like many of you either want to or wanted to until you’ve started doing it. And he is saying, hey, it was a struggle at first. It was not as advertised at first. However, now he seems to be doing about $150,000 of income and, and expanding that empire. So kudos to him for finding, finding a path there to that freedom to having, you know, building the life of his dream. So kudos to this dad down in Australia.

Jordan Berry [00:01:38]:
Very cool article about him by the way, where he talks about his, his experience, his story. So make sure you’re subscribed to the news [email protected] to get the newsletter with links to all of these stories. Okay, we gotta head from down under all the way up to northwestern Missouri where a new laundromat opens up called Local Laundromat. Very cool name. I really like that actually. And is bringing pickup and delivery to an area that has never had it before. It’s a very cute article actually. It’s, it talks about it like this is some novel thing which is great.

Jordan Berry [00:02:17]:
It is for the area and kudos to, to Sylvia Klupech. I’m sorry, I’m going to butcher your name out there. Who built this laundromat and is now doing pickup and delivery services. So came from the bakery segment of business and is now doing laundry. So pretty cool. And in another story that illustrates the passivity of laundromats, there’s a laundromat in Lawrenceburg that listen, they remained open even after being struck by a car. A car hit the laundromat right through the Front, the brick facade is all caved in, but the laundromat just kept chugging along. Reminds me of one time when my laundromat flooded, and I didn’t know for a little while, and by the time I got there, there was probably 3, 4 inches of water on the ground, and the place was packed.

Jordan Berry [00:03:10]:
And literally, people had their shoes off and were hiking up their dresses and rolling up their pants and just kept doing laundries like nothing happened. So, listen, we’ve got a resilient customer base. Don’t do that if you can help it. But listen, they’re there. They’re there for it sometimes. So. Okay, another story here about a cafe Laundromat hybrid in Southampton, which is very cool. Again, we’re seeing more and more of these popping up.

Jordan Berry [00:03:38]:
Looks really nice. They did a really great job with the laundromat. It’s a really cool story about them. And they’ve got a little cafe there in the laundromat, and they’re, you know, just looking for ways to, number one, monetize that downtime of doing laundry. But number two, a different way to serve the community. So continue to keep those wheels turning in your head. Don’t settle. Don’t get too, you know, complacent.

Jordan Berry [00:04:03]:
Don’t get too complacent in your business. It’s really easy to do in this business because this is a business that just kind of churns and turns and churns and does pretty well unless you do something to mess it up. But, you know, don’t just sit on your haunches. Keep thinking about how you can improve your business, how you can serve your customer base even better. Harvest board grants, $5,000. Promote reading in a Laundromat. So again, another example of a laundromat being a community hub, a place that is championing reading in the community, especially for kids. They got a little library corner over there with some books, stuff like that.

Jordan Berry [00:04:45]:
Very cool. We see that a lot in our industry. It’s a big deal. It’s a big deal. So kudos to those guys for doing it. And also speaking of cool things in laundromats in the Lower east side, there in New York, there is probably one of the coolest art shows around in JJ Cleaners and laundromats. So if you’re around Lower east side, make sure you go check that out, because there’s a cool, cool art display or cool art show happening at this laundromat. Again, links to all of these.

Jordan Berry [00:05:14]:
If you’re interested in them in the newsletter. So make sure you’re subscribed over [email protected] and listen, we got to go a little darker because we all know that this can happen. There was a criminal incident that happened there in a laundromat in Nebraska where three clothespins held up two shirts. Get it? Okay, that was your joke for today, Patrick. Hope that makes you happy. And I’m, you know, listen, I’ve given up on trying to be funny in these. So if you got jokes, send them my way. I would love to be funny in them for you.

Jordan Berry [00:05:57]:
But anyways, last story wrapping things up here this week in news all across the lawnmower industry is big. Cotton is getting involved here. Cotton Incorporated is hosted a panel where they talk about microplastics. Genius move on their part. This is a hot topic not just in our industry but all over the place. And you know, basically our, our clothes shed micro, microplastics. So you know, laundromats got highlighted in this little panel discussion here that they were talking about microplastics and our fight against these microplastics that are turning up all over the place, including in our bodies and in our oceans and all over the place. So listen, keep your ears open.

Jordan Berry [00:06:46]:
Microplastics, I think are going to continue to be a hot topic just generally and in our industry. If we can be proactive about how we’re helping tackle the microplastic problem, it’s only going to be good for us. And I love, by the way, how our industry is intentionally trying to reshape our reputation. We’ve had such a bad reputation for so long and well deserved in a lot of rights for, you know, the industry in general, not everybody out there, but the industry in general that it’s just kind of like a breath of fresh air for me to see more and more quality laundromats. Yes, the big nice new ones. Million dollar two million dollar laundromats. Those are cool to see too. But even just the smaller down home, you know, backcountry laundromats where these owners are coming in, running their laundromats like a business and taking care of their community.

Jordan Berry [00:07:42]:
So kudos to all of you who are out there getting it done, rehabbing the reputation of our industry. I found in my very first laundromat it’s much easier to rehab the laundromat than to rehab the reputation of the laundromat. And that’s what we are about doing right now. So kudos to all you hoping to be a little bit of a part of that myself, both through my Laundromats and also through, you know, helping you guys in small ways here and there. So listen, if you got news you want to be featured, big or small, about your specific laundromat or your company servicing the industry, shoot me an email news at laundromatresource. Com. Would love to feature you here. That is it for Laundromat news today.

Jordan Berry [00:08:26]:
We will see you next week.
