Jordan Berry [00:00:01]:
Welcome to Laundromat News Today. I am your anchor, Jordan Barry, bringing you all the news Laundromat related all the time, or at least for right now. So, let’s start off with the super cool new, I guess, website feature that Sense just came out with called Into the Fold. Is that IntotheFoldproject.com? We’ll have the link in our newsletter there, but go check it out over there. Pretty cool. They’ve got a whole bunch of industry statistics laid out in a very cool way. Really cool to go and dig into, like, for example, how many tons of laundry are processed daily? How many bottles of detergent are used? How big is the laundry market? Average price per pound of wash and fold per state, average order value per state, average tip percentage per state, and a whole lot more. So congrats and kudos to them for coming out with into the full project, and and bringing us all these stats, industry stats, trying to help us get better at what it is that we’re trying to do around here.

Jordan Berry [00:01:09]:
So, I also want to highlight, Kelly Clarkson. I believe that she won American Idol maybe one time. Is that the right one? I might be wrong, but not so great at pop, pop culture. But on the Kelly Clarkson Show, which I think is a daytime talk show, maybe she actually awarded some laundromat owners ten thousand dollars for doing cool stuff in their community and to help them out with their businesses. So pretty cool. Again, I try to highlight these very cool things that a lot of I shouldn’t say a lot, but that laundromat owners are doing to help us think bigger, get on television and win money and partner with NFL teams and have music video shot in your laundromat. I think I’ve mentioned there’s actually a, a short Amazon film that was filmed partly in one of my laundromats, in L. A.

Jordan Berry [00:02:10]:
And, you know, do do cool stuff, partner with the city, all kinds of cool stuff, that can happen at our laundromats. In fact, speaking of which, it was just discovered in a South American laundromat, a brand new species of wasp that was discovered. Pretty interesting stuff. What happened was and there’s how it all went down is a wasp flew into, the law and a washing machine got closed in there and went through the wash. And as soon as the wash ended and it opened up the washing machine, the wasp became a wash. And that was okay. That was the joke for sorry, Patrick. I’ve been trying to get funnier.

Jordan Berry [00:03:01]:
It’s just not happening. But new species of wasp out there in South America. Go check it out next time you’re down there and, you’ll love it. I want to highlight that eco friendly commercial laundry equipment market is booming. So as you’re looking to replace your appliances, your washing machines, your dryers, your water heaters, all those things, as it comes time to retool those, bear in mind their, their, ecological impact. I almost said economic. Ecological impact, their impact on the environment as we’re going to becoming more and more important. As always, we want to take care of Mother Earth who takes care of us.

Jordan Berry [00:03:45]:
So continue to support the companies and the brand lines that are coming out with eco friendly commercial laundry. Okay. This is an interesting one. There’s a laundromat called Wash, a Washboard Laundry in Culver that has a section of it that they partnered with the town of Culver to provide a section, of the laundromat that has a narca, Narcan box. And what that basically is, is it something that can help, reverse the effects of opioid and fentanyl overdose when administered quickly and can help prevent opioid and fentanyl overdose deaths? So again, just another example of a small thing that a laundromat owner can do. Listen, as laundromat owners, we deal a lot of times with, I guess, people who are now unhoused or homeless people. And a lot of times it goes hand in hand with drug abuse and mental disabilities. And, so this laundromat is actually doing something about it.

Jordan Berry [00:04:52]:
So 120 East Madison in Culver, is where, they’re doing that. So kudos to that laundromat owner for getting involved in trying to have a little bit of an impact, in your community and in people’s lives in your community. Literally saving lives. Kind of a superhero. You’re kind of a superhero over there. Awesome. Okay. So, Akron Akron, Ohio is hosting a free afternoon of washing, drying at the laundromat in a Tumble Together event, which is great.

Jordan Berry [00:05:28]:
And this is just, again, a city sponsored initiative called Tumbled Together. And, in 2024, it says they helped 97 families do over 300 loads of laundry, and they’re doing it again. In in March, they did it and they’re doing it again. So, awesome stuff. Again, partnering with the city to do something good. It’s something that benefits your business. It’s something that benefits others, something that benefits the city itself. And, listen, man, there’s good feels all the way.

Jordan Berry [00:06:01]:
And obviously, like the people who are getting laundry done, even better. So good feels all around. Looking for ways to partner with people. In fact, a lot of times, it’s a great way to grow your business. So if you’re not looking for ways to partner with organizations, other companies, nonprofits, city government, organizations, NFL teams, whatever the case may be, then you’re missing out. And I want to highlight one other, event that just happened in April. April was Sexual Assault Awareness Month and, River House of Grayling headed what they call the clothesline project in local laundromats in the area. And basically, what it is is an opportunity for, people who, are were victims of sexual assault or abuse to be able to, actually write on white t shirts, some of their thoughts, their feelings, express themselves artistically, and then hang the, hang the shirts up on the clothesline as an opportunity to share their story in their own unique way using the the words they wrote or the artwork they created on their shirt.

Jordan Berry [00:07:13]:
And it’s an opportunity to just find some healing, to share that stuff and to share with one another and to support each other. So clothesline project pretty cool. And I wanted to highlight that one, obviously, because, you know, she’s a cool cause there, you know, to support people who’ve, suffered abuse and assault, and also to highlight the fact that listen. There are things that we can do to benefit our community that also, you know, anecdotal or, like, on a side note, will benefit our business in the long run. But even aside from that, there are things that we can do that don’t cost us anything. Right? You don’t have to give away free washes. You don’t have to do these massive initiatives. Sometimes it’s as easy as allowing people to express themselves and giving them the space to to do so and to find some healing in the midst of that.

Jordan Berry [00:08:04]:
So kudos to the Clothesline Project and the laundromats, engrailing that, that supported that and that participated in that event. So again, wanted to one more time just highlight into the full project that since just came out with. Go check that out. Very cool to dig into some of the industry stats, interactive site there and, that link and all the other links from all the other stories will be in our newsletter that goes out. So make sure you’re signed up for that at LornamentResource.com. And again, if you have news, send it over to us. If you have a press release, send it over to us. If you’re doing something cool in your laundromat, we wanna hear about it and highlight it.
