Jordan Berry [00:00:01]:
Welcome to Laundromat News Today. I am your favorite Laundromat News anchor, Jordan Barry, bringing you Laundromat News from around the world. And we’ve got to start off with I just have a question. I heard that April 15 is National Laundry Day, and my question is, why? Who who thought that this was gonna be a good idea to pair laundry up with taxes? I just don’t know. But, anyways, it’s passed now for this year. We have survived National Laundry Day. Hopefully, you made some good business. If you didn’t know about it, put it on the calendar next year and figure out a way to exploit it to grow your business or something.

Jordan Berry [00:00:43]:
Spend your tax refund on laundry. I don’t know. But anyways, happy National Laundry Day. That’s a good place to start for us. Okay. So I need to, shout out, Brian Henderson and his company, Wash Dry Fold POS. They’ve got a brand new feature that’s come out for their Wash, Dry, Fold POS, software system, which is a, a Wash, Dry, Fold pickup, drop off laundry, software system that many of you guys are utilizing. In fact, he’s thrown out.

Jordan Berry [00:01:14]:
I’ve seen him throw out some pretty cool stats at how many pounds of laundry have come through his system, and it’s insanity. So congrats to him. But they just launched a new feature that has an attendant checklist feature built into their software, that is making life so much easier for owners and attendants alike, making sure that they are doing all the things that they need to be doing every single day, week, month, year to keep those businesses running smoothly and humming with those washers and dryers running. So check out, check out the show notes page for that press release. You can check it out over there. There’ll be a link in the description down below or in the show notes if you’re listening on the podcast. And check it out. They’ve got a really good thing going over there, and we’ll have a link to those guys as well.

Jordan Berry [00:02:06]:
Okay. I gotta shout out, one of my consulting clients who made the news. Congrats to JR Dumas who’s got, whose laundromat made the news here. Laundries, laundry and latte. And he just opened up pretty recently, did a huge renovation, had a launch party a couple of weeks ago, and is off to the races. He’s got, coffee shop with his laundromat, and is, off and crushing it. So congrats to JR. Way to make it happen over there in Brooklyn.

Jordan Berry [00:02:40]:
You know, bringing coffee to the laundry game and laundry to the coffee game. Loving it and representing, the French inspired Harris cafes well in his laundromat. So awesome to see you in the news, JR, and keep it rolling. Okay. An owner was at his, laundromat, and, this group of kids came in and started, just kinda cracking a bunch of, jokes about, you know, washers, a lot of, like, washer puns and things like that. The owner was completely, frustrated with them and was trying to kick them out. It turned into, an incident. The police were called.

Jordan Berry [00:03:27]:
Things escalated quickly. The police finally came. They broke up the confrontation here, took the kids to one side, took the owner to the other. And as a police officer was asking what was going on, the owner said that the the kids were just making all kinds of, washer jokes, and it was just causing a ruckus. And he said, listen. I I I don’t appreciate that. I have a dryer sense of humor. Dryer, washer jokes and dryer.

Jordan Berry [00:03:58]:
Okay. Not a real news story, sadly, but could be to make it happen if you’re young out there. Go harass somebody with a bunch of washer puns. Okay. Moving on. And, on a less light note, talking about dryers, there was a laundromat fire in South LA. I just wanna shout it out because it’s not too far from my South LA, laundromat there. But shout out to LA fire department that got there pretty quickly.

Jordan Berry [00:04:26]:
No injuries. No major damage. It was a dryer fire, not a joke. And, you know, just another gentle nudge, gentle reminder, maybe it’s time to take the covers off of your dryers, clean out all the lint that gets caught up in there. And if you haven’t cleaned out those dryer, vents, clean out the dryer vents. And also check your roof because if you have those, with the candy cane, the j vents there, a lot of times lint can gather up on your roof and also cause a fire hazard. So check that out. Not sure why this made the news, and it doesn’t seem very novel.

Jordan Berry [00:05:04]:
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this since I was a little kid, but one Redditor is getting some notoriety as a laundromat customer for this quote, unquote, ingenious method of collecting and organizing quarters for laundry. Now listen, you quarter holdouts here, maybe you wanna propagate this to your customers as a way to keep their quarters organized, make it easier for them. I know there’s a lot of quarter holdouts. I’ve been seeing some of the polls and stuff on Facebook and forms and stuff where a lot of you guys are still 11 quarters. So that’s awesome. Here’s here’s the big secret is they use medicine bottles that hold $10 worth of quarters in them. They’re portable. They are supposedly it’s good for the environment because we’re reusing those plastic things.

Jordan Berry [00:05:55]:
And, you know, whenever people get changed, they just toss them in there and keep them in their pocket or their purse or whatever. I don’t know. It doesn’t seem that novel or newsworthy, but it was in the news. And I wanted to share it with any of you in case you wanna share it with your customers. Anything to make it easier for our customers to spend money at our stores, it’s worth talking about. So, there you go for the corner stores over there. And finally, I wanted to shout out Laundromax, out in New York. They just, celebrated or they’re celebrating their one year anniversary.

Jordan Berry [00:06:31]:
They got a couple locations, been in business for one year and they’re celebrating with, I think, four free wash days. Tax day was one of them that just passed, recently and a couple of two in May and one in June. So, you know, be thinking about opportunities to celebrate and promote your business, with your community and your customers, and then the news and all that stuff. That story made the news. So you can make the news too, obviously, right here on Laundromat News Today by sending an email about what you got going on in your business, whether you’re a laundromat owner or somebody serving laundromat owners, send an email at [email protected], just like Well Should I Fold POS did, and we’ll feature you in the news as well. But I’m gonna leave you with this question. I’m curious if you’re, if you’re on the YouTube channel, maybe throw down in the comments, what is your view on free laundry day? Are you pro free laundry days as a promotional, tactic, or, do you prefer a different promotional tactic for your business? I’m just curious. I think the free laundry day is a little bit controversial.

Jordan Berry [00:07:45]:
So I’m curious where you stand and why. So drop a comment down below. Let us know, and we will see you again with news from around the world in the laundromat industry next week. Peace.
